    Neck-tongue syndrome is an uncommon condition characterized by sudden pain in the upper neck or occipital region\u2014the area at the back of the head\u2014together with an altered sensation or posture of the tongue on the same side.<\/p>

    Episodes are commonly triggered by a sudden rotational movement of the head. The pain may feel sharp, stabbing, or electric, and the tongue may feel numb, tingly, or unusual. Episodes often last seconds to several minutes.<\/p>

    Researchers believe the condition may involve the C2 spinal nerve or its ventral ramus near the joint between the first two cervical vertebrae, C1 and C2.
